Disappearing Bees PDF Print E-mail

In recent years, beekeepers and honeybees have been spotlighted by the media as being in trouble. A mysterious new bee “disease”, called Colony Collapse Disorder or CCD, has been claiming hundreds of beehives nation-wide. Fear that all of the honeybees will die and pollination will cease has caused many people to get concerned about the plight of the honeybees. Although it appears that the bees are disappearing at an alarming rate, very few of the nation’s beekeepers have suffered from CCD, and practically none of the backyard hobbyists have even been affected.

Click this link to download a well written, well researched article about CCD entitled "Are Honey Bees Disappearing?" by Anneliese Abbott of Abbott Farms, Otsego, Michigan. Anneliese is a member of the Kalamazoo Bee Club and leader of the Young Beekeepers program.
