9 am - 4:00 pm
Kalamazoo Nature Center
Kalamazoo, Michigan

Note: Kalamazoo Bee School is full. Please register for Holland (above) or Albion (below)

Bee School teaches everything you want to know about beekeeping but don't know who to ask.

Mark your calendar for February 18 and sign up now!

Two sets of classes are offered:

  • classes for those just getting into keeping bees for the first time
  • classes for beekeepers who already have one or more hives

Expert speakers are lined up. Suppliers will show and sell everything you need to get started in beekeeping, including hive woodenware, supplies and packages of bees. Wicwas Press will provide a wide variety of beekeeping books.

Plan to participate in the "Teacup Auction" - the annual fundraiser that pays for outstanding beekeeping programs put on by the Kalamazoo Bee Club all year long. Look around home and select a couple of items you no longer need that someone else might want, and bring them to Bee School. Maybe you received a couple of Christmas gifts that aren't quite right for you, but somebody else might like them. In the Teacup Auction, you can buy tickets to bid on the items you would like. 10 tickets for $10 or 30 tickets for $20. We can't guarantee you will get everything you bid on, but we can guarantee you won't get anything you don't want, because you only bid on the items you like. The Teacup Auction is really fun.

Registration and coffee start at 8 am. Classes start at 9 am. Classes end at 4:30 pm. Get Teacup Auction results and visit with vendors until 5 pm.

Registration is $45 per person, and includes lunch plus $10 in Bee Bucks to spend on bees, beekeeping supplies or books. Additional members of the same household may register for $35 per person with lunch included. Only $10 in Bee Bucks per household.

Prior to attending Bee School, please take a few moments to read the section of this web site on Beekeeping Basics and become acquainted with the beekeeping terms and definitions that will be used by Bee School instructors. Click this link to go to Beekeeping Basics and download the list of beekeeping terms and definitions.

In the event you are unable to attend the Kalamazoo Bee School after you have already registered, you may change your registration to Albion if you like. If you do not  attend either Bee School due to inclement weather or personal circumstances, your registration fee will be retained by the Kalamazoo Bee Club as a donation to help provide quality beekeeping programs all year.

We look forward to seeing you at Bee School!
